General Education Course Proposal Timeline 2017-2018

Tuesday, December 12:         

Submission process for proposals opens.

Please recall that by the action of Faculty Association, there is a moratorium on new tag approvals during the 2017-2018 academic year. Exceptions may be granted in very limited cases. Please communicate with Karen Thomas, UCC Chair, prior to preparing a full proposal.

Tuesday, January 16:          

All proposal submissions due.

Monday January 22:     

Proposals made available to Sub-Committee Chairs, proposal review begins.


Wednesday, January 31:     

Initial sub-committee approval/denial (with justification sheet) due to UCC, sub-committee assisted revisions begin.


Wednesday, February 14:   

Revisions due to sub-committees. Second round of review begins.

Wednesday, February 23:  

Sub-committees' final approval or denial due to UCC.


Friday, February 23:           

UCC review of all proposals begins. UCC will inform proposers as final decisions are made.


Friday, March 2:                  

UCC review of proposals completed. Appeals process begins.

Process for Proposing a Course


1. Design a course.

2. Complete the Course Proposal Form.

3. Submit to the Undergraduate Curriculuar Committee (UCC) at

4. Domain subcommittees reviews the proposal and may ask for revisions before they choose whether or not to recommend the course for approval to UCC.

5. UCC reviews the proposal and either approves or denies the course the proposed general education tags.

6. Approved courses are submitted to the Registrar's Office for course creation.

Faculty members wishing to appeal the UCC decision may contact the chair of UCC to begin the appeals process.
